Present low-value food like kibble in your right hand to your dog at nose level. Keep high value treats in your other hand hidden behind your back.
Wait as long as it takes for your dog to disengage with the food hand presented to him.
When he does say YES and reward him with the higher value food in your other hand.
REPEAT until your dog stops engaging eith your food hand.
With a few treats in your right hand, place your hand in front of your dogs nose and slowly lure your dogs nose upwards and slightly backwards. When the nose goes up, you’ll see the butt go down. The minute the butt touches the ground, say YES and release the treat for the dog to eat.
REPEAT!
Go to Mat - part 1
Lure your dog to the mat using a few rewards in your hand and pointed finger to the mat.
When all four paws are on the mat, say YES and scatter the rewards on the mat for your dog
REPEAT REGULARLY to add value and strengthen the behaviour. The more the behaviour is practiced, the stronger it becomes.
